The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for snow melt from Saturday afternoon through Monday morning. Warmer days this weekend with temps peaking near 70 degrees will bring renewed snowmelt and streamflow rises. The most significant impacts will likely be seen by late Sunday.
Rising waters are potential for Susanville, Westwood, Portola, Loyalton, and Sierraville.
Low-water crossings may be flooded. Minor mainstem flooding along the Susan River cannot be ruled out.
If you are near waterways this weekend, enjoying the reprieve from the winter, you are cautioned as water will be running high, fast, and potentially out of banks for some creeks and streams. The water will be extremely
cold as well, quickly causing shock. Even the most skilled swimmers can quickly lose muscle function and drown in these scenarios.
