Fire’s Ignite in Forest Lands Near Border

CALFIRE is responding to a complex fire burning in Siskiyou County, called the August Lightning Complex. The fires are burning near the three corners of Siskiyou, Shasta, and Modoc Counties.

CALFIRE says the fires are actively burning in timber. Currently, the White Fire is 150 acres; the Ranch Fire is 400, and the Long Fire is 30. No evacuations or structures are threatened at this time. Steep, inaccessible terrain and narrow winding roads continue to challenge firefighters. Crews will continue with direct and indirect line construction.

Yet the most significant fire is the Head Fire, burning south of the Hamburg community in Siskiyou County, which was reported shortly after 4:30 p.m. yesterday. It is reported to be over 4,000 acres with a rapid rate of spread and has prompted evacuations to nearby communities.

Smoke impacts are expected to remain to the North.
