The Plumas National Forest reports that firefighters on the Mount Hough Ranger District plan to conduct pile burning operations this week on two projects near Taylorsville, conditions permitting.
Wednesday, Feb 11, firefighters plan to treat approximately 61 acres of piles south of Taylorsville. If conditions remain favorable, they plan to treat approximately 26 acres of piles on the Emigrant Timber Project nearby on Friday.
Smoke is expected to be visible from Taylorsville, Genesee Valley, Indian Valley, California State Route 89 and the surrounding area.
Minor smoke impacts of short duration are possible on neighboring forest roads. Visibility on roads in the project area may be reduced, especially early in the morning and late evening as smoke settles, said PNF.
Drivers in the area should use caution and watch for fire equipment exiting and entering area roadways. Slow traffic may be present. Area residents and visitors planning to recreate in the area are asked to be aware of their surroundings and be prepared for possible short-term smoke and reduced visibility.
If weather conditions become unfavorable, including increased or gusty winds in the area, burning will stop until conditions improve, said personnel. Firefighters will be monitoring conditions throughout operations.
