Feather River College President Kevin Trutna reported Feb. 3 that interest payments from the Plumas County Treasurer’s Office were late again this year. It was his third consecutive annual appearance before the Plumas County Board of Supervisors with a similar message.

“Feather River College is not receiving investment income from the county treasury within the deadline for federal and state reporting,” Trutna told the supervisors.

His complaints come on the heels of an overdue county audit that found a $1.9 million discrepancy between the county treasurer’s monthly reports and the statements audited for fiscal year 2023. In his Dec. 23 report to the supervisors, Norm Newell, a certified public accountant with Smith & Newell, noted that he had made a similar finding for the 2021-2022 fiscal year.

Plumas County Treasurer-Tax Collector Julie White said some of the problems attributed to her office stem from inadequate software. In 2017 the county installed a Tyler-Munis system to replace the10-year-old Pentamation system. It is still not fully functioning, she said.
