According to a police report, The Nevada Highway Patrol, through its investigation of a crash on southbound U.S. 395 near Red Rock Road on Tuesday, December 16, reports that preliminary investigation shows a Dodge pickup traveling in the left lane and a Volkswagen Jetta traveling in the right lane collided after the Volkswagen made an unsafe lane change into the left lane.
The Dodge swerved left to avoid the crash, struck a paddle marker, then rotated back onto the roadway and collided with the left rear of the Volkswagen.
The Volkswagen overturned, crossed the center median, and came to rest on its side in the northbound lanes.
The driver of the Volkswagen, 31-year-old Andrea Banks, of Reno, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Dodge driver sustained minor injuries and remained on scene.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.
The crash happened just after 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Northbound U.S. 395 was closed at Red Rock Road for hours, but has since reopened.
