On the evening of November 22, 2021 at approximately 1724 hours, Party 1 and his passenger were traveling E/B on SR44 approximately 1.22 miles east of the Bogard Rest area. Witnesses observed the Ford truck traveling at approximately 60 MPH just prior to the collision. For reasons unknown at this time, the driver veered to the left and went off the roadway. The truck continued off the south roadway edge and collided with a small tree. After striking the small tree, the vehicle struck a much larger tree that stopped the vehicle. The passenger was not wearing her seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle sustained major injuries and was Care-Flighted to Mercy Hospital.
