Eastern Plumas Health Care pushes back to the Portola City Council on the construction of a 5G Verizon cell tower near their campus. Their argument is for the health of the community, as it is unclear if 5G towers pose any harmful health risks to people as well as on the basis that the tower affects the hospitals potential to expand any further with the addition of a helipad. The hospital’s board made a split decision to write a letter of protest to the City, citing more research on the topic and more discussion is warranted before proceeding. A future meeting will address the situation with a full consultative review.
