Concessionaire Pulls From Plumas National Forest, Impacts Coming to Summer Recreation

Plumas National Forest faces challenges for the upcoming 2023 summer season, as Outdoors in Plumas, the recreation concessionaire, has decided to close its special use permit. The decision was communicated to the forest in mid-February, and the company has taken steps to shut down operations in the Plumas National Forest. According to the Outdoors in Plumas website, the high cost of doing business in California and the long-term impacts of the Dixie Fire were the reasons behind their decision.

Forest leadership is contacting potential concessionaires and partners to discuss possibilities. However, there is a chance that some facilities may be open with reduced services or remain closed for the season.
