The City will announce the scheduled general municipal election to be set for Tuesday, March 5, 2024. This will determine the fate of three Councilmembers who will serve a four-year term, concluding their tenure in June 2028.

To ensure the smooth execution of this process, the council will have to pass a series of resolutions during next week’s council meeting. The first of these resolutions calls for the formal declaration of the election, followed by a resolution seeking consolidation of the election with Lassen County. Additionally, a resolution will be passed to establish the regulations governing candidate statements on the ballot.

For aspiring candidates eager to participate in shaping the future of Susanville the window for submitting nomination papers and candidate statements is set from November 13, 2023, to December 8, 2023. However, it’s important to note that if any of the incumbent Councilmembers opt not to seek re-election, the Elections Code provides for a five-day extension of the nomination period. In such a scenario, the deadline for submissions would be extended through December 13, 2023.

The council will meet Wednesday, October 4th, with this item, at 5 pm in city Hall.
