City Council will push forward on two concerns of the community. The council met Wednesday evening to hear how the community felt about the new proposal for 139 and Skyline as the area for the county’s Supportive Housing project.

Many spoke about not feeling this is the area for it, and the proposed location was once a previous dump. Some had the same concerns as the Mesa location on safety issues and who would pay for the building.

Council Member Shuster was concerned about the project being located by the college due to the many young children that use the facility grounds and the young adults that can attend the college programs at age 14.

Representing the county, Barbara Longo, Lassen County Public Health and Social Services Director, stated that funding for the project will come from State and Federal taxpayers’ money and that they also plan on obtaining grants.

With a 2-3 vote the council directed Administrator Dan Newton to proceed with County Administrator Egan to proceed in the next step on the 139 and Skyline site.

The board also approved the direction to Administrator Newton to proceed in the hiring stage for the position of Economic Development Director and Assistant, if needed, in partnership with The Susanville Indian Rancheria.
