The identity of the Caltrans worker struck yesterday morning following a collision on US395 has been released by the California Highway Patrol as 61-year-old David Recasens of Beckwourth.
CHP says The roads were snow-covered and slippery that morning. Recasens was operating a Caltrans snowplow and had pulled over on the right shoulder north of Constantia Road to inspect his equipment. Shortly after stopping, a vehicle spun out and collided with the rear of the snow plow. Recasens got out of the snow plow to inspect the damage.
CHP says there were no injuries initially. However, a few moments later, the driver of a Chevy Silverado, 40-year-old Luis Ramos of Dayton, NV, headed northbound and lost control on the icy roadway. As the Chevrolet began to spin out, the front of the Chevrolet collided with the left side of the snow plow and with Recasens. Recasens was knocked down and was able to scramble under the snowplow for protection. CHP officers were on the scene immediately and called for medical aid. Recasens was transported from the scene by helicopter.
His condition is unknown, though the incident report suggests his injuries were minor. No other injuries were reported from the collision.
