Chester Public Utility District Jan. 23 Board Agenda

A tax measure committee will be appointed this week by the Chester Public Utility Board of Directors in an effort to educate the community about the district’s May 7th special election tax measures.

CPUD is in desperate need of voter approval for at least one of these measures proposed to Chester to fund the fire department. One will fund a volunteer-run department, while the other, the higher tax, will support the return to a full-time fire department. CPUD hopes to gain community support for either measure but must address the issue of previous measures failing to pass, with many citing a lack of voter education and outreach from the district.

To address this, CPUD aims to change its approach. At the board’s Tuesday meeting, an advisory committee will be appointed after a review of the submitted letters of interest, with the intent for the committee to use the knowledge and community ties of its members to help educate the public on the facts of the tax measures.

The board will convene at 5:30 this Tuesday at the CPUD building on Chester Airport Road. An agenda can be found on the district’s website.
