Chester Icon Crumbles Under Snow

Another building collapses under the weight of snow in Plumas county. Over the weekend, The Lassen Modoc unit of CalFire says the Church of Christ in Chester could not withstand the weight of snow on the building’s roof and crumbled. Images from the Calfire unit show the extensive damage where a complete side of the building folded and caved—the West Almanor bulletin called the incident a tragic loss of a local icon.

Records say the church was founded in 1984.

This will be the second local structure to give way to the snow. Buck’s Lake Lodge collapsed mid-March, just after several outbuildings and two manufactured homes in Graeagle collapsed due to the heavy snow load.

If you have concerns about your home’s snow load you can visit the Plumas county website, where the county’s snow load information can be found.
