In an initiative to promote safety among children, Chester’s California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers are bringing back a childhood tradition to reward young helmet-wearing cyclists and vigilant pedestrians using crosswalks. Partnering with Pine Shack Frosty, a beloved local ice cream parlor, the initiative seeks to incentivize safe behavior among the town’s youth.

Beginning this week, Chester’s CHP officers will be keeping a keen eye out for children exhibiting responsible behavior on the roads and sidewalks. Those spotted wearing helmets while cycling or demonstrating safe pedestrian practices by using crosswalks will be pleasantly surprised with coupons for a free kids cone at Pine Shack Frosty.

The collaborative effort between Pine Shack Frosty and the local CHP officers aims to instill a culture of safety while fostering positive interactions between law enforcement and the community, particularly among the younger generation. The initiative holds a special significance for some of the officers involved, as they recall receiving similar coupons as children from local CHP officers.

As summer approaches and children spend more time outdoors, the Chester CHP officers and Pine Shack Frosty look forward to continuing their partnership in promoting safety and spreading joy, one free ice cream cone at a time.
