The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) reminds deer hunters that the deadline to report this season’s harvest is fast approaching. Regardless of success in the hunt, hunters must submit the number of deer taken during the 2023 season.

Failure to meet the reporting deadline of January 24th carries consequences, as an additional charge will be applied to the 2024 deer tag drawing application or existing deer tag.

This mandatory reporting obligation was established by a law enacted during the 2015-2016 season, making it a requirement for every purchaser of deer tag(s) to report their harvest. Compliance with this regulation is crucial for accurate wildlife management and conservation efforts.

Hunters are urged to promptly fulfill their reporting obligations, contributing to the state’s ongoing commitment to responsible and sustainable hunting practices.
