PG&E is undergrounding power lines along Caribou Road in Plumas County to help mitigate the risk of wildfires.

A portion of Caribou Road is closed during work hours but reopens at night and all-day Sunday and on major holidays through November 21, weather permitting. Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

Caribou Road is from the U.S. Forest Service’s Queen Lilly Campground to about 4.5 miles to the Belden Reservoir.  Emergency vehicles will be allowed through.

To detour around the closure, motorists are advised to take Highway 70 east to Highway 89 north to Prattville-Butt Reservoir Road.

PG&E has identified its undergrounding effort as the largest ever by a utility to reduce wildfire risk. In the locations where those lines provide electricity to customers, undergrounding eliminates nearly all wildfire risk involving power lines.
