Not all highway rescues involve vehicle.
While conducting pavement reviews on U.S. 395 in Modoc County earlier this month, several Caltrans District 2 maintenance employees spotted something unexpected along the highway — a group of lost puppies.
The crew safely rescued the puppies and were able to return them to their family.
This is just one example of how our maintenance personnel are always looking out for more than just the roadway. Every day, our crews keep watch for hazards such as debris, disabled vehicles, collisions, and anything else that could impact the safety of the traveling public. Sometime, that means helping four-legged travelers who need a little extra assistance too.
Thank you to these employees for going above and beyond to make a difference — for motorists, our communities, and in this case, some very grateful puppies.
