Caltrans District 2 Snow Plow Operator Awarded Medal of Valor

Caltrans District 2 equipment operator Travis Sutton is awarded the highest state honor for saving a woman’s life early last year.

Early in the morning, On March 21st, while plowing snow on SR 70 through the treacherous Feather River Canyon, Sutton noticed tire tracks leading off the roadway. Sutton stopped his work to take a look over the dam. That’s when he discovered a vehicle in the river and heard a woman yelling for help. Sutton went down the hillside and helped the woman back up the road. Both waited in the warmth of the snow plow until first responders arrived.

On Wednesday, November 16th, Sutton received the Governor’s State Employee Medal of Valor for risking his life to save another.
