California Highway Patrol recorded over 68 deaths this Independence Day.

The CHP implements six Maximum Enforcement Periods a year to help save lives on the roadways during the holidays. From June 30th to July 4th the department says that the 68 deaths occurred because people not wearing a seatbelt and driving at unsafe speeds. 

Over this holiday weekend, with over 1200 arrested for driving under the influence, an average of one DUI arrest every five minutes. The CHP is committed to keeping the roads safer for all who use them.

The next MEP to enhance public safety, Deter unsafe driving behavior, and imply appropriate enforcement action is scheduled for Labor Day weekend.
