The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reports that Safe and Sane firework sales have started in some jurisdictions throughout California, resulting in fire officials emphasizing the dangers of fireworks. The agency encourages everyone to prevent fires and injuries and always check local regulations before buying.
The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone that all fireworks — even those labeled Safe and Sane, such as sparklers — are illegal in Plumas County. Fireworks are only allowed in permitted events per Plumas County Code 4-2.201. “Celebrate responsibly this Fourth of July to prevent wildfires and keep our community safe,” said PCSO.
To report fireworks or gunfire, concerned individuals can call the PCSO 24/7 dispatch number at 530-283-6300.

Fireworks bought outside California are illegal without a license, said Cal Fire. It is also illegal to transport Safe and Sane fireworks through any city or county where they are not allowed. “Consider enjoying a professional display instead of purchasing fireworks,” said Cal Fire.
“Since 2024, fireworks have caused over $35 million in property damage across California, sparking 1,230 fires,” said Chief Daniel Berlant, California state fire marshal. “It is your responsibility to prevent fires and injuries. Don’t let your Fourth of July celebration end in flames.”
