Following the fire at the Old SPI Mill site in Susanville on Sunday, March 29, 2026, CalFire crews continue to work on remaining hot spots throughout the area.
Residents should expect to see visible smoke coming from the site over the next several days. This is a normal part of the process as fire personnel continue overhaul operations and monitor the area.
Fire crews will remain active on-site and will continue daily patrols once initial operations are complete.
If you observe anything unusual—such as flames, heavy smoke, or conditions that appear to be worsening beyond light, expected smoke—please report it immediately to local authorities.
We appreciate the community’s patience and support as crews continue to ensure the area is safe.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
