Mooney Prescribed Burn
Beginning Wednesday October 8, 2025, CAL FIRE Lassen Modoc Unit in coordination with Collins Pine Almanor Forest, will be conducting a timber understory burn within an ongoing CAL FIRE Fuel Break project near the communities of Westwood and Clear Creek.
This ongoing project may continue through the months of October and November when prescribed burning conditions are favorable for a low-intensity timber understory burn.
Smoke will be visible near the communities of Westwood and Clear Creek as well as along CA SR Highway 36 between the community of Westwood and CA SR Highway 147. Prescribed burn signs will be posted along roadways and there will be no need to call 911 to report the burning operations.
The purpose of this project is to reduce the possibility of roadside vegetation fires, as well as the project ties in with additional CAL FIRE Fuel Breaks to protect the communities of Westwood and Clear Creek from the possibility of future wildland fires.
