A strike team of fire engines from the CAL FIRE Lassen Modoc Unit was deployed to Medford, Oregon yesterday in response to a significant lightning event that has ignited numerous wildfires across Southern Oregon.
Over the past several days, the region has experienced more than 2,000 lightning strikes, combined with high temperatures and gusty winds. These extreme weather conditions have created a hotbed of fire activity, prompting the need for mutual aid support.
The Lassen Modoc Engine Strike Team—consisting of five fire engines and a strike team leader— arrived yesterday evening, July 8th, in Medford and is actively coordinating with the Oregon Department of Forestry assisting with wildfire suppression efforts.
“We stand with Oregon during this critical time, just as they’ve stood with us during some of California’s toughest fire seasons,” said Anale Burlew, Chief Deputy Director of CAL FIRE. “These mutual aid partnerships are built on trust, coordination, and a shared commitment to public safety.”
CAL FIRE remains committed to supporting wildfire response efforts throughout the region as fire conditions continue to evolve. While maintaining adequate fire suppression resources locally, the Lassen Modoc Unit is prepared to send additional resources if conditions escalate.
