RESCUE: At approximately 5:10 yesterday evening, the BCSO Dispatch Center received a call from a hiker who stated she was with her dog on a hike, and became lost due to heavy fog near Yankee Vista Drive, in the Big Bend area.
Two ground search teams from Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue responded to the area to search for the woman, who reported that she was cold and wet, and had no drinking water. Around 8:15, the team found the woman and her dog, gave her a warm jacket, gloves and sweatpants, along with water for both her and her dog. The team assisted the woman with hiking out of the area to our Search and Rescue Sergeant, who then drove her and her dog back home.
We would like to remind our community members to use caution when hiking, especially when it’s foggy the way it has been lately. Bring plenty of water, dress in warm clothing, and please never hike alone. In this case, the hiker stopped in a safe place, called 911, and remained in that location until our search team could find her.
We are happy we were able to rescue this hiker last night, but overnight conditions will continue to get colder as we head into the winter months so please be careful!
