The Bug and Stallion fires north of Reno-Sparks have burned over 130,000 acres since Saturday. These wildfires forced thousands of residents to evacuate areas stretching from northeastern California to Pyramid Lake.
Firefighters improved containment this week. The Bug Fire containment rose to 31% on Thursday afternoon from 3% the day before. The Stallion Fire containment increased to 44% from zero.
Seventeen crews with 771 fire personnel work on both fires. The Bug Fire has 579 firefighters assigned, while 192 tackle the Stallion Fire. Firefighters use 66 engines, seven helicopters, and nine dozers to fight the blazes.
