Pile-burning projects will begin along the Bizz Johnson next week. Fire crews with the BLM will be burning piles of limbs and brush in an area near the Trail starting on Tuesday. The burn will only be completed if weather and fuel conditions allow for a safe and successful burn.
The project will be in the burn scar of the 2020 Hog Wildfire burn scar and will cover about 10 acres. The goal is to reduce vegetation that could feed a wildfire and also improve the landscape quality along the trail.
You may see some light smoke when driving along hwy 36, just five miles west of Susanville.
The burn again will be taking place next Tuesday if conditions allow.
