Smoke will be visible from the communities of Susanville, Ravendale, and Doyle, as well as from Horse Lake Road, Highway 395, and State Route 139 on allowable burning days beginning Wednesday, Jan. 21, and continuing through the winter and spring months during Bureau of Land Management prescribed burning projects across Lassen County.
What: Crews will be burning piles of brush, limbs and small trees that resulted from fuels reduction projects.
Where: The projects will cover approximately 600 acres total at four locations: North Horse Mountain (four miles east of Horse Lake), Ravendale Fire Station, Hidden Valley Fire Facility, and Doyle Fire Station.
When: Burning will take place only when weather and fuel conditions allow for safe and successful burning
Background: BLM crews will conduct the projects in accordance with burn plans that specify allowable conditions and the personnel and equipment required.
BLM fuels reduction projects aim to improve fire resilience in the wildland-urban interface and improve conditions for suppression and structure defense in wildfires.
