The Bureau of Land Management is partnering with Lassen Rural Bus for a unique Fall service route. As the colors of fall peak along the Bizz Johnson trail, you can take in all of its wonders this Saturday as the Lassen bus will take you to several trailheads to enjoy the hike back into Susanville.
This particular route will have a minimal fee of 3 dollars to ride or a total of 6 with a bike. You can plan to meet at 8 a.m. at the historic Susanville Railroad Depot on Richmond Road. The bus and bike shuttle will leave at 8:30 a.m., making its first stop at the Devil’s Corral Trailhead, where you can ride or walk the seven miles back to Susanville.
You can also choose to ride longer and continue west over Fredonyer Pass – following six miles of Forest Service Roads to Goumaz, and then ride 12 miles downhill into Susanville, or you can continue to Westwood to the Mason Station Trailhead – and ride the full-length of the Bizz Johnson as it follows the old logging railroad for a total trip of 25 miles back to Susanville.
Another option is the South Side Trail. A scenic single-track trail that parallels the Bizz in the lower seven miles of the Susan River Canyon between the Devil’s Corral Trailhead and Susanville.
