The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking public comments on the proposal to expand a gold mining operation in Washoe County.
Your thoughts regarding the draft environmental analysis can be shared during the 30-day window. The project, presented by Hog Ranch Minerals Inc., aims to expand exploration activities across approximately 200 acres of public lands at the former Hog Ranch Mine site. The comment period will run until October 30th.
The project involves developing improved, permanent, temporary access roads, drill pads, exploration drill holes, a staging area, and a water well. Most of these activities will be situated on the previously disturbed mine site. Throughout the environmental analysis, the BLM will assess potential impacts on cultural and biological resources, focusing on minimizing effects on sensitive plant species and special-status wildlife species.
BLM Applegate Field Office Manager Craig Drake stated, “The BLM has been fully engaged with cooperators, including the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the Nevada Sagebrush Ecosystem Technical Team, to ensure that this proposed exploration aligns with the highest environmental protection standards.”
If you have comments or concerns on the draft environmental analysis, you can email [email protected] or send them by mail to the Bureau of Land Management, Surprise Field Station, in Cedarville.
