Smoke may be visible from planned burns near Eagle Lake. The Bureau of Land Management says operations will begin Monday as weather and staffing allow.

Fire crews from the Eagle Lake Field Office will conduct the prescribed burns north of the Lake, beginning with the 4000-acre Bald Understory Project.

The first prescribed burn in the series will be a broadcast burn of 150 to 300 acres on just west of the Grasshopper area, along State Route 139. Smoke will be visible from the vicinity of Eagle Lake and to motorists along route 139 and US Highway 395.

Crews will continue to complete the project through a series of small, strategically located burns ahead of larger broadcast burns designed to treat the entire project area.
