North County can expect to see smoke fill the skies. The Bureau of Land Management has begun another round of prescribed burns in the area. The Applegate Field office started burning across the county line in Shasta near Fall River Mills on about 800 acres along Hogback Ridge just south of the town. Smoke will be visible if you are driving along Highway 299 or are in the Big Valley and Burney Basin areas. This is part of a seasonal effort to reduce fuel. Pile burns will continue through fall into winter as allowed by conditions across Modoc, North Lassen, and Washoe counties.
