Visible smoke near Alturas and along US 395 should not raise your concern. The Bureau of Land Management’s Applegate Field Office will be burning piles of juniper trees and limbs today through Thursday. The burn will occur 10 miles south of Alturas in the Ryegrass Swale area. Fire crews plan to burn 40 acres daily to complete a total of 160 acres. Burns will only take place if weather and fuel conditions allow.
