Spring has arrived, and the Lassen National Forest crews are moving forward with continued fire restoration. Hat Creek Ranger District employees are working to replant in the Bald Fire scar, 8 miles southeast of Fall River Mills. The Bald Fire burned nearly 40,000 acres in the summer of 2014. After the area was salvage logged, the forest service says the district and its partner, Fall River Resource Conservation District, began replanting trees in areas determined to have the best chance of successful reforestation. Over the last six years, Hat Creek has re-planted almost 6000 acres burned in the Bald Fire, with another 1,000 acres currently underway this year.

Crews have been planting a mix of conifers, including ponderosa, Jeffrey, sugar pine, and incense cedar.
