This outcome would not have been possible without the participation of the crime survivor and continued support of her family. We wish them well in their quest for closure from this incident.
We would like to thank the jury for their time and deliberation in this matter. This case was investigated by the Lassen County Sheriffs Office with assistance from the Butte County Sheriff and the Sacramento County District Attorney Crime Lab. The case was prosecuted by District Attorney S. Melyssah Rios with support from our Victim Services Division and our hardworking administrative staff.
This was our 23rd case presented to a jury since January. We simultaneously presented our 22nd case (another in-prison homicide) in a separate courtroom, which also resulted in a guilty verdict. Our request for funding for an additional attorney this fiscal year was denied during the budget process.
