The Modoc Joint Unified School District has named Amy Welch intern principal of Alturas Elementary School for the 2025-26 academic year.
Welch has served the campus in several leadership roles, including MTSS coordinator, summer school teacher and parent night coordinator. District leaders credit her work ethic, integrity and strong relationships with students, families and staff for her success.
Superintendent Beckie Lewis, who previously led Alturas Elementary, said Welch routinely places students first and understands the needs of the rural community. Lewis added that Welch’s calm, collaborative approach will help the school continue on a steady path.
As intern principal, Welch will complete her administrative credential while overseeing daily operations. She plans to support teachers, involve families in school life and promote a positive, student-centered culture.
District officials say Welch’s solutions-focused mindset positions her to guide the school through the coming year with energy and continuity.
