Alturas Felon Arrested on gun Charged

A convicted felon was arrested Aug. 4 after Alturas police officers found an arsenal of firearms, ammunition, drugs and paraphernalia during a search of his home, authorities said.

The Alturas Police Department said it began investigating after receiving information on Aug. 3 that Gene Frankenfield, 58, of Alturas, was unlawfully in possession of stolen firearms. Following the tip, police conducted a thorough investigation and obtained a search warrant signed by Honorable Judge Randall Harr.

The next day, officers executed the warrant at a residence in the 600 block of Josephine Street. Inside, police said they discovered 12 firearms of various types, ammunition, suspected methamphetamine and several items of drug paraphernalia. Investigators determined that some of the recovered firearms had been reported stolen.

Frankenfield was arrested and transported to the Modoc County Jail. He was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In a statement, Alturas Police Chief Marc Muller said the department is committed to ensuring public safety by “actively pursuing individuals engaged in illegal activity.”
