Lassen National Forst officials say N.F Fire and Aviation resources responded to a smoke reported by West Prospect Lookout this afternoon.
Nameed the Ashpan fire, it is burning on the Hat Creek Ranger District near Ashpan Snowmobile park.
Resources that worked the fire are a Battalion Chief, Air Attack, multiple air tankers, 1 helicopter, 5 engine crews, 2 hand crews and the forest fire dozer. It was confirmed by the Forest Service that the fire was caused by an abandoned campfire.
The Ashpan fire at 4:30 was contained to 1.5 acres with a hose line and handline around it, and aviation resources were released. CAL FIRE assisted on the incident with an aircraft and 2 engines. Fire equipment will be in the area the next few days and overnight. You are asked to remain out of the area and alert for firefighting apparatus.
This incident is a strong reminder that as the region dries out and temperatures soar, one spark can cause a wildfire. The Lassen N.F would like to remind everyone enjoying the outdoors to drown all campfires and be fire-safe.
