The City Administrator of Susanville may undergo a title change following the city council’s meeting this evening. One agenda item involves proposing an amendment to the city administrator’s employment agreement, changing the title to City Manager. This adjustment would result in an 8 percent salary increase across all steps, amounting to nearly $550.
According to certain sources, the distinction in titles typically implies that the City Manager dedicates their efforts to implementing policies, while a city administrator focuses on administration and policy creation. However, it’s important to note that this change has not been explicitly outlined in the revised employment agreement with the City of Susanville. City staff and council members are currently unavailable for comment.
In addition to this, the council’s Wednesday agenda includes considerations for approving an update to critical radio equipment in the water and gas division. The existing equipment is described as “extremely out of date” and is crucial for daily operations, providing warnings about potential issues and enabling 24/7 monitoring of water, natural gas, and geothermal systems. This update costs approximately $50,000 without impacting the city’s general fund.
Furthermore, the council will deliberate on a new agreement with a vendor for uniform and laundry services for the public works department. The second reading of a proposed ordinance to define the role of the City Public Safety Chief will also be on the agenda, responding to the retirements of the police and fire chiefs last year.
Pickleball will return to the council’s attention with a proposal to update the city code, which limits the use of the tennis courts at Memorial Park to include the allowed play of pickleball.
The council is scheduled to convene at 5 pm in City Hall, and the agenda can be found on the city’s official website.
