High Desert State Prison is on limited movement after a fight broke out in a day room. Monday evening, around 7 pm, 15 incarcerated became involved in an altercation that started between only a few, according to prison officials. Correctional Officers immediately responded with chemical agents, direct impact rounds, and expandable batons to bring the incident under control.
Five inmates were stabbed and taken to outside hospitals for treatment after receiving initial medical measures from staff. Three have since returned to HDSP, while two remain in the hospital, with one in critical condition. No staff injuries were reported.
Officers discovered at the scene of the incident an astounding eleven inmate-manufactured weapons.
HDSP is limiting movement while the incident is being investigated.
