The fire was reported at 7:55 a.m. Feb. 18 at 393 Pintail Road on the California side of New Pine Creek. The Willow Ranch Fire Department responded with two engines and four firefighters, arriving in less than five minutes after receiving the request from Klamath 911 Dispatch.

When firefighters arrived, the trailer was fully engulfed in flames. Crews extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby properties.

The trailer’s occupant suffered minor injuries and declined medical assistance.

Automatic mutual aid was provided by the Oregon-based New Pine Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Additional agencies assisting included the Lakeview Fire Department, Cal Fire and the California Highway Patrol.

Incident Commander Jim Safford, chief of the Willow Ranch Fire Department, said the coordinated response helped contain the fire to the trailer, with no damage reported to other structures in the area.

“Our volunteer fire department and community appreciated the timely response from all of the fire agencies in Modoc and Lake County,” Safford said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Property owners are reminded to maintain a defensible space around structures and to report fires immediately by calling 911. When contacting dispatchers, callers should provide as much information as possible about the location and type of fire.
