Feather River College reports that Congressman Kevin Kiley requested a brief visit at the college in September. As the Feather River Community College District representative in Congress, Kiley asked to meet faculty and staff to discuss updates in the Education and Workforce Committee, which he serves on, along with any recent updates or concerns the college wished to bring to his attention.

Upward Bound Director Audrey Selby met with Kiley to discuss the importance of the TRiO and Upward Bound programs for outreach and college preparedness in the local area.

Next, Kiley visited the outdoor recreation leadership classroom at FRC. This program prepares students for careers in outdoor-related fields. Kiley was able to meet students, learn about their backgrounds and hear about their career aspirations. FRC points out that the unique ORL program prepares graduates with career and technical education.

Professor Saylor Flett asked the congressman about the proposed sale of public lands that was originally included in the Big Beautiful Bill proposal. Kiley answered that he was in a leadership position for a bipartisan effort to remove the sale of public lands from the bill’s language, as he believes in the importance of public lands for citizens and visitors.

Kiley then received a brief tour of the facilities, including training equipment purchased from the California Department of Boating and Waterways grants over the past few years.

The college thanks Kiley for taking the time to visit and learn about FRC, as well as interact with students and employees.
