State and Local Officials with various public departments and community members joined to celebrate a historic moment for the Susanville Indian Rancheria.
Eighty-eight acres of land near Eagle Lake was transferred back to the rancheria after nearly 70 years.
The transfer came from Chico State Enterprises, a foundation of the CSU.
The Eagle Lake Field Station served as a classroom, lab, and cabin facility, overseen by the university since the 1960s.
This historical transfer restores the ancestral territory back to the Rancheria, made possible by an act introduced by the late Dianne Feinstein, current senator Alex Padilla, and Congressman Doug LaMalfa, which was signed into law by the President this January.
