Drivers will begin to see the making of a new welcome sign as they enter Susanville. Located right at the entrance to town on SR36, near the existing Comfort Inn billboard, the sign aims to create a favorable first impression for visitors.

The City Council granted approval for the design in early March, with a focus on representing the local community, enhancing aesthetics, and improving public spaces. The forthcoming design will read “Welcome to Susanville,” showcased on a wood plank backdrop featuring a saw blade, paying homage to the town’s Timber Mill heritage. Concrete pillars will support the signage.
While the original design included the City and Susanville Indian Rancheria Seals, City Administrator Dan Newton noted that these elements are being modified to be semi-permanent and removable.

Caltrans District 2 crews are set to begin installation this week, with measures in place to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimal disruption for motorists throughout the process. The project’s progress will continue until mid-October, dependent on favorable weather conditions.

Funding for the $185,000 monument comes from the Clean California program.
