The Rainbow Family Gathering has found a new location following last week’s forest order closure over, now called Site 1, on the Plumas National Forest near Antelope Lake.

The Plumas Forest Service has confirmed that the Unauthorized Noncommercial Group Use Incident has moved from the Indian Creek Headwaters area on the Mount Hough Ranger District to the new location near the intersection of Forest Road 28N01 and 26N70 on the Beckwourth Ranger District, approximately 12 miles north of Beckwourth, CA.

Plumas National Forest Supervisor Chris Carlton stated, “The Forest and National Incident Management Team have been tracking the location change and are already sending resources to evaluate the area for concerns and public health and safety.” The new site, previously used as a fire camp, is familiar to the Forest Service.

The National Incident Management Team will continue to safeguard public health and safety, ensuring all national forest visitors adhere to federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

The Indian Creek Headwaters Road and Area Closure Order remains in effect to protect natural, Tribal, and cultural resources, address fire danger concerns, maintain public health and sanitation, and uphold permitted special use where the unauthorized gathering was occurring.

For public safety, the Plumas National Forest has issued a forest order restricting the speed limit on Forest Road 28N01 to 15 miles per hour from the intersection with Forest Road 26N70 to the intersection with Forest Road 25N31, effective today due to the large gathering in the vicinity.

The group, currently lacking a required special use permit for noncommercial group use involving more than 75 people, is in violation of Federal Regulations (CFR). The Forest Service is discussing obtaining the necessary permit with the Rainbow Family of Living Light.

Forest Order 05-11-01-24-01 will be in effect until July 15 or until lifted by Forest leadership.
