Plumas National Forest in Stage I Fire Restrictions

SHARE NOW

Officials say the drying index has reached the 60th percentile, meaning forest fuels have been rapidly drying out since the summer heat arrived, increasing the risk of wildfire. This transition has been the earliest in years, coming 6 weeks sooner than typical.

While under stage I fire restrictions, you are only allowed to have a fire within a designated campground within established campfire rings.

Smoking is also prohibited unless inside a vehicle or building or in an area clear of flammable material. All vehicles and generators can only be used on designated roads and trails.

The Forest Service stresses that if you hold a campfire permit, you are not exempt from these restrictions, but you are allowed to use portable campfire pits, stoves, and lanterns with a shut-off valve.

Failure to follow the fire restrictions, which began Monday, can result in up to a 5,000-dollar fine for individuals and up to 10,000 for any organization or six months in prison.
