Voter turnout increases as more ballots arrive in Lassen.
Ballots trickle into the the elections office where 3,000 ballots were already awaiting processing Wednesday afternoon according to Registrar of Voters Julie Bustamonte. 1000 more ballots were added to the tabulation reaching a 53% voter turnout with the latest update released around 6:30 Wednesday evening.
Here’s what’s changed:
The gap widens between voters over Measure V the county’s 1% sales tax increase, to bring the entire county to an 8.25% sales tax. The measure would have brought an estimated 1.5 million dollars to public safety. Over 4,000 no-votes have been counted.
Shaffer’s school bond, Measure W, with 55.5% support, is narrowly meeting the needed supermajority threshold. Given the slim margin, the final outcome may depend on the counting of any remaining ballots.
In Plumas, a second unofficial ballot count is expected by this afternoon according to the elections office. Lassen County elections expect regular updates daily.
All postmarked ballots must be received by Tuesday, November 12th, following the Veterans Day holiday, and must be certified by December 5th.
