Candidates’ declarations are official, yet those vying for the Lassen County District 1 Supervisor seat will have an extended deadline.
Supervisor Chris Gallagher of District 1 has chosen not to run for another term.
Out of the three who have thrown their names in the ring, only one candidate has made it official, and that is Chris Cole. The others to potentially challenge Cole for the seat are Kevin Jones, former City Administrator and Police chief, and Nicholas McBride, Firefighter EMT.
Both have yet to make it official but will have until Wednesday to do so.
One other County Supervisor seat will have a race, which will be for District 2. Incumbent Gary Bridges will seek another term, while his challenger is set to be Thomas Herrera, current Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Susanville.
Hererra, in a statement on his decision to run for the office, said that he believes he has accomplished all that he ran for in 2020 with the city and wants to pass the torch to the next incoming council. He added he sees the county facing issues similar to the city’s and wants to bring his experience to the board, adding he felt the community deserves someone to represent them equally.
District 4 will also be up for election, yet incumbent Aaron Albugh will run uncontested for the seat.
Lastly, there will be a judge’s race. That between, Robert Burns, retired Lassen County Counsel and former District attorney, and Tracy Witry, current Lassen Superior Court Commissioner, who will seek to be the next to serve the County’s Superior Court.
The voters will decide all offices come March 5th; mail-in ballots are expected to be hitting mailboxes as soon as February 5th.
If not registered, your last day to do so is February 20th.
