History buffs, nature enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers are invited to embark on a guided tour of the Modoc Line Rail Trail, offering a unique opportunity to delve into the region’s rich railroad, lumber, and ranching heritage. The Lassen Land and Trails Trust, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management and the Nevada California Oregon Railroad Society, will host this special event on Sunday, September 28th, from 1:00 to 4:00p.m.
Participants will tour the scenic “Snowstorm section” of the Modoc Line Rail Trail, a testament to a successful rails-to-trails conversion. Experts will lead the journey, sharing insights into the area’s past and equipping attendees with knowledge of the mountain ranges, distinctive rock formations, and the vast sage-steppe desert that surrounds them.
The point-to-point guided tour is designed to be accessible to various modes of transportation. Off-Highway Vehicle users, including those with side-by-sides and other high-clearance vehicles, are warmly welcomed.
For those without suitable vehicles, the Lassen Land and Trails Trust will provide a “tour van” for participants to pile into.
Cyclists are also encouraged to join, though organizers note that the trail can be powdery and challenging for riding.
This event promises a chance to enjoy the majestic landscapes from a unique vantage point while learning about the forces that shaped this corner of Northern California.
Space is limited, and those interested in participating are encouraged to sign up soon to secure their spot. Further details and logistical information will be shared with registered attendees.
