Lassen County looks to strengthen broadband infrastructure with the help of California Public Utilities Commission funding. The supervisors will join the county in an agreement with the Golden State Connect Authority to become a member county, allowing the county to apply for up to half a million dollars in funding through the local agency’s technical assistance program. The county will have until the end of the month to submit the application to apply. The GSCA along with Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency (UTOPIA) fiber, will then be able to enlist professional services to implement the project and build and lease the fiber. The county will not own the infrastructure but would serve as the vehicle for the engineering.
