AMBER Alerts celebrates 20 years of service in reuniting abducted children. California Highway Patrol commissioner Amanda Ray says “The tremendous success of the program would not be possible without the partnership of law enforcement throughout California, broadcasters, government agencies, and members of the public”. Two decades ago in July of 2002 state law designated CHP as the statewide coordinator for the Amber Alter Program with its initial activation happening in August of that year. Nearly 400 children or at-risk individuals have been found safe since its inception.
